Schmitz Cargobull supply 20 double deck refrigerated trailers to DFDS Logistics

A new name in logistics has added 20 new Schmitz Cargobull refrigerated trailers to its vehicle fleet.

DFDS Logistics - a division of DFDS which has been formed following the Danish company's recent acquisition of Norfolkline from AP Møller-Mærsk, has purchased the reefers to service several large food retail customers on routes throughout the UK, Ireland and the Continent.

The trailers, which will operate out of depots in Belfast, Peterborough and Larkhall, are the first DFDS Logistics' assets to feature the organisation's striking new brand and logo.

"We are delighted to see our new name so prominently displayed and to be able to use the trailers as part of the launch of our new brand," says Eddie Green, Executive Vice President of DFDS Logistics.

The trailers are a similar specification to other Schmitz Cargobull models already operating in the new DFDS Logistics fleet. The trailers are 4.65 metres high, with an interior floor to roof height of 3.2 metres and incorporate a double deck storage system. Increasing the trailers' height and introducing the double deck system, enables a higher volume of palletized loads to be carried within the same overall vehicle footprint. This allows DFDS Logistics to reduce the number of journeys that it makes while still providing the highest levels of service to its customers, but while also reducing it's carbon footprint.

The trailers' refrigerated box units are constructed using Schmitz Cargobull's Ferroplast modular steel-skinned panels to keep loads at the desired temperature. The easy to clean box unit makes the trailer particularly suited for the transport of foodstuffs.

"We have always been impressed with the build quality and after-sales support that Schmitz Cargobull offers," explains DFDS Logistics' Mervyn McIntyre. "Furthermore, because we are a pan-European logistics services provider, we feel comfortable dealing with a partner that can support our assets throughout Europe," he adds.

"We are delighted to have supplied the first assets to feature this exciting new brand," says Allan McKee, Schmitz Cargobull (UK) Ltd's Key Accounts Manager. "Norfolkline specified Schmitz Cargobull products for many years and we intend to have an equally long and successful relationship with DFDS Logistics."
