Security is plane sailing for Reflex at Leeds Bradford International Airport

The new £11 million passenger terminal redevelopment at Leeds Bradford International Airport (LBIA) boasts class leading safety and security arrangements thanks to the efforts and expertise of Rotherham’s Reflex. Yorkshire’s ‘Gateway to the world’ is now equipped with a host of new technological enhancements, making LBIA one of the best and most sophisticated transport hubs in the country.

Reflex has worked in partnership with LBIA since 2005, making the Rotherham firm the natural choice to deliver the latest specialist technology needs for such a prestigious long term client. While incumbent systems needed additional support, the bulk of the project was taken up with significant upgrades. Video surveillance has been upgraded for the entire site in both passenger and airside areas, while a major overhaul has been undertaken of the access control systems.

"Reflex understands our environments and the demands upon us," said Tim Beynon of Leeds Bradford Airport. "As a border control authority we have to work to strict government guidelines and if systems fail for any reason, our airport closes and the knock-on effects can be significant both commercially and from a public perception perspective."

Enhanced security was an essential ingredient in the determination of the airport to deliver ‘best in class’ facilities and an unrivalled experience for the millions of passengers who use the airport every year. Thanks to the work of Reflex, the new systems at LBIA are bang up to date and capable of providing both a high degree of traceability, plus sophisticated management information and auditing tools essential to the safe and smooth running of a major international airport.

"Partnering with a company like Reflex is critical to the smooth day-to-day running of the airport," added Tim. "And we have been pleased with how the relationship has developed into a genuine partnership over the years."

"This is the latest of several contracts covering CCTV/access control in response to development works and ongoing improvements at Leeds Bradford Airport," said Reflex Operations Director Steve Ward. "Reflex contributes regularly to the planning and maintenance regime at the airport, so our contract represents much more of a partnering relationship than a traditional supplier-client relationship. We feed our sector expertise into the management system at LBIA and for their part they keep us abreast of the latest national and global changes that require action in terms of systems and planning."

Established in 1987, Reflex was an early champion of both CCTV and Access control technologies and has since developed its portfolio to include intrusion detection and fire detection and is now one of the UK’s best known independent technology integrators – delivering some of the most leading edge solutions, both overseas and locally within the Yorkshire region, of which this latest project for Leeds Bradford Airport is yet one more example.
