Seminar focuses on insecure loads

Regulatory law specialists Dyne Solicitors Limited will turn the spotlight onto load security at a seminar aimed at managers, supervisors and trainers working with commercial vehicles.

The event, at Dyne Solicitors Limited's office in Tattenhall, Chester, on 9 October, will explore the legal issues around insecure loads and look at systems to help companies comply with the law and codes of practice. The seminar will:

Explain legal responsibilities and offences relating to load security

Explain the basic principles to ensure load security and prevent accidents

Highlight simple measures to reduce the risk of prohibition notices, prosecutions and convictions relating to insecure loads.

John Dyne, of Dyne Solicitors Limited, said: "It is vital that operators should be aware of the risks of prosecution for both employers and drivers as a result of an insecure load, which carry maximum fines ranging from £5,000-£20,000 in the magistrates' courts, as well as the risk of imprisonment.

"To secure a criminal conviction, it is not even necessary for the prosecution to prove a load has actually shifted, let alone fallen from a vehicle."

The seminar, which is designed for directors, transport managers, supervisors and trainers and others responsible for managing commercial goods vehicles, runs from 4.45-6.15pm.

The seminar costs £23.50 per person, with a 50 per cent discount for each additional person from the same organisation. Light refreshments will be provided.

The event will be repeated on 29 November at the same time and venue.
