Lancashire-based SAP Logistics specialist The Config Team has helped a leading UK food manufacturer to transform yard management at one of its main distribution centres with the implementation of its new YardMap interface.
The client was previously using a standalone Access database system which was difficult to use and fast becoming obsolete. To prevent having to move to a paper-based system, which would have had an enormous impact on efficiency, a permanent solution was required quickly.
YardMap is a front end user interface to SAP’s Yard Management. It allows your transport team to visualise and manage your yard, doors, trailers and SAP document assignment.
This easy-to-use tool enables users to move trailers and map spaces in a virtual yard. With drag and drop functionality and colour coding, YardMap provides a simple, at a glance snapshot of the yard.
It also integrates with mobile RF devices for increased flexibility.
It even allows a Trailer to be assigned to Inbound / Outbound Deliveries, Shipments and also to a door, providing excellent traceability. It is also possible to load and unload trailers as part of the YardMap process.
YardMap uses standard SAP Yard Management functionality but massively improves the user experience as the SAP module itself does not have a visualisation tool.
The virtual display is created using Web Dynpro on a browser for easier visualisation.
This GUI is easier to use and requires less experience, less training, and gives an immediate appreciation of the yard contents compared to using the SAP standard ALV reports.
YardMap complements Yard Monitor, SAP’s standard reporting transaction. Consequently no 3rd party software is needed so all data remains within the SAP ERP system.
Implementation is simple and training can be done quickly as the interface uses familiar SAP functionality and terminology.
