The only exhibition in France and internationally to cover all the links in transport, freight forwarding and the logistics chain is SITL Europe 2016, taking place on 22-25 March in Hall 6 of the Parc des Expositions, Paris Nord Villepinte. It is a hub for discussion and discovery on the challenges, trends and innovations in the sector.
More than 100 conferences will take place during the exhibition
The 2016 conference programme consists of 10 highlighted themes which have been designed and will be chaired by the members of the Strategic Committee, all of whom are logistics, transport and/or supply chain directors of major companies in manufacturing and retail.
They will focus on new consumer expectations, sustainable development, the link between industrial logistics and e-commerce, urban logistics, tracking the cold chain, the spare parts supply chain, distribution networks evolution, the digital revolution and the new business of operational excellence.
For several years now, an increasing number of special programmes have been developed for SITL Europe:
A series of conferences will be opened on 22 March, with the World Transport & Logistics Forum and the bi-annual presentation by the World Bank of their study into logistics competitiveness.
This will be followed by the Overseas Day (22 March), the Waterways Programme (22 March), Maritime Day (23 March), European Rail Freight Day (24 March), and a further series of conferences focusing on dangerous goods logistics (22-25 March).
The programme is concluded with a series of conferences dedicated to Intralogistics (22-25 March) and a further one on new generation transport equipment (22-25 March).
New to the agenda is the first African Logistics Conference, “Gearing up Africa!”, which explores establishing a logistics chain in Africa.
Finally, the first “Start-up Contest” has been introduced to the sixteenth edition of the Logistics Innovation Awards this year.
Attendees such as Coca-Cola Enterprise, Bolloré Logistics and the start-up Shippeo are representative of the rich variety of the programmes taking place at SITL Europe 2016.
Promoting sustainable logistics
Following COP21 in Paris in 2015, sustainable supply chains will be subject to a special focus on the opening day of the exhibition on 22 March, with a conference dedicated to Green Logistics.
The conference will feature several programmes aimed at reducing greenhouse gases in transport together with the Fret 21 charter supported by shippers.

On the basis of voluntary commitments, Fret 21 helps us establish our objectives and provides technical support to measure its impact.”

By following a structured process comprising three courses of action, Coca-Cola Enterprise is therefore committed to reducing its transport CO2 emissions by 30%:
The first course of action is to reduce the number of kilometres travelled by moving production closer to demand, knowing that 90% of soft drinks sold in France by Coca-Cola Enterprise are produced within the country. “Since 2009, an investment of €265 million to increase production and reduce carbon footprint has resulted in our five national factories producing almost all our packaging. With rigorous stock management, these measures have reduced our average delivery kilometres to 273km. Over half of the journeys are for less than 150km.”
With collaborative approaches developed with clients and suppliers, the second course of action involves optimisation of the lorries used on the road by using techniques such as “back hauling” and “front hauling”, direct delivery and shared services so as to reduce empty kilometres.
Thirdly, an increase in use of alternative transport and fuel such as using LNG vehicles and combined rail-road transport.
Gearing up Africa
Responding to an increased interest in Africa, on 22-24 March, SITL Europe 2016 is offering a series of conferences dedicated to the logistics challenges on this continent.

Large-scale e-commerce projects

SITL Europe 2016 is also organising the first edition of the Start-up Contest.

Shippeo has developed an innovative solution to manage road chartering allowing the connection in real time of the order givers and their transporters in order to facilitate sharing information and carry out real time tracking of transport services.

The contest is split into two phases. Having sent their entry between 1 and 26 February, the start-ups go through a first selection process. On 8 March, eight pre-selected entrants are chosen. They are then invited to give a five minute presentation in front of a jury on Friday 25 March at 9:30am.
The winner will be announced on 25 March during the sixteenth edition of the Logistics Innovation Awards, taking place at 12pm in Hall 6/Plenary Hall at the Parc des Expositions, Paris Nord Villepinte.
The winning start-up will also be awarded with the use of a 9m² exhibitor stand at SITL 2017 in Paris.
