Six-year warehousing and distribution contract is "major endorsement" for supply chain specialist

Following a competitive tender one of the country’s most recognisable food brands, Tilda, has awarded a new six-year warehousing and distribution contract to Wincanton.

Making the announcement Tilda, the UK’s leading producer of Basmati rice, described Wincanton as a "great supply chain partner", highlighting the two businesses’ commitment to demonstrating innovation in their operations.

As part of the contract Wincanton, which has a reputation for finding and unlocking potential within its customers’ supply chains, takes responsibility for all Tilda’s warehousing and distribution operations.

After Wincanton collects the rice from Tilda’s two Rainham-based production sites and transports it to its shared-user facility in nearby West Thurrock, its operatives will then pick and distribute the goods, by both case and pallet, to Tilda’s customers, including major retailers, wholesalers and food outlets, across the UK.

Wincanton will do this utilising its unique warehouse system powered by Manhattan, a proven, pre-configured service allowing rapid take-on without the usual risks of systems start-ups, ensuring certainty of supply and service.

In addition, Wincanton will manage Tilda’s shipping to America and transport operations into mainland Europe, using a mixture of transport options – including dedicated vehicles, its own fleet network, and sub-contractors – choosing whichever is the most energy efficient for the task.

Jeremy Roberts, Head of Supply Chain for Tilda, said: "During the competitive tender process we were looking for a business partner that could not only demonstrate innovation within the supply chain, but which also shared our commitment to reducing our overall operational impact on the environment.

"We are confident Wincanton is the right partner to build on the success of our business to date."

Wincanton Managing Director Chris Kingshott described winning Tilda’s warehousing and distribution contract as a major endorsement of Wincanton’s capabilities and standing in the industry.

He added: "Crucially we share some very important cultural values with Tilda, and we look forward to developing this relationship and delivering excellent customer service over the coming years."
