Skive underlines FKI Logistex Technologies

CAN BENEFIT SMALL AS WELL AS LARGE LIBRARIES. Danish library is first to install linked MiniSorter® and new Library Mate® 4000 Series automated self-service check-out units

Regardless of the size of library, its lending and stock volumes and media types, the Library Solutions Division of FKI Logistex® can offer an automated cost-effective alternative to traditional, labour-intensive library processes. Proving the point of how a small library can successfully benefit by adopting these versatile and world-beating end-to-end library technologies is the Skive Library in Denmark.

In a move to free-up staff from time consuming and labour intensive sorting and handling tasks, the library has installed an FKI Logistex MiniSorter® and four new Library Mate® 4000 Series automated self-service check-out units. Opened recently by Queen Margrethe II, Skive Library is the first location in Denmark to use this equipment - which was fully operational within only four months of being ordered - with the sorter and kiosks linked together.

Incorporating nine discharges, the MiniSorter at Skive helps avoid repetitive tasks allowing librarians far more productive free time to concentrate on helping customers. Gently and accurately sorting more than 97 per cent of all lending library materials, this compact, robustly engineered unit requires little floor space and is installed quickly and easily. The versatile modular construction allows the system to be expanded, re-configured and moved around within the library with minimal trouble and cost.

Ove Holm, Sales Engineer, Library Solutions, FKI Logistex comments: "Skive library's customers have been quick to acknowledge the tremendous convenience and time saving benefits provided by our simple-to-use Library Mate® check-out kiosks. The systems speed up throughput significantly and ensure items are returned into circulation with the minimum of delay. Key features of these popular units include self-sortation of reserved items and the ability to link the kiosk to the FKI Logistex MiniSorter".

Mr. Peder Sandholm from Skive Library says: "As a progressive but relatively small facility, Skive is delighted to be the first library in Denmark to install the FKI Logistex technology. Underlining its commitment to helping libraries improve efficiencies through automation, the company has been very helpful in providing professional advice backed by its extensive resources. As a result, we are totally confident Skive has achieved an effective overall solution and see this as the start of a long term and close working relationship with FKI Logistex".
