Linamar Corporation’s (TSX:LNR) Skyjack division has seen the population of its aerial work platforms increase across Asia over the past few years, with many being delivered into the region’s largest market, China. Now the company is looking to make further inroads into the country by exhibiting at bauma China, the nation’s leading construction equipment exhibition.
Malcolm Early, vice president of marketing at Skyjack, said extending the company’s Asian reach is a key target for the business.
“One of our strategic goals for the short-term is to strengthen our presence in several high-potential growth markets, one of which is China,” he said. “There’s no question that China represents a huge opportunity for Skyjack and we have made recent investments in personnel and offices in the country. Even though we’re a relative newcomer to the market we’re already seeing growing interest from customers. Exhibiting at bauma China will allow us to present ourselves to thousands of Chinese industry professionals at a single event and we’re excited to be attending this show.”
Platforms from across the Skyjack range will be on booth J.06 in the outside area at bauma China 2014. The company offers access solutions for all kinds of applications and the units on the company’s stand underline the versatility and efficiency of Skyjack AWPs. The firm is also the world’s leading producer of scissor platforms, so it’s no surprise that there are two of these on the booth.
SJ III 3219 and SJ III 4632
From the DC electric scissor range there are two machines, the SJ III 3219 and the SJ III 4632. Both are designed for use on level floors in industrial or commercial locations, and offer zero-emissions and silent operation.
The SJ III 3219 has a 5.79 m raised platform height which equates to a working height of 7.79 m. An industry-leading platform capacity of 227 kg allows for a wide variety of installation and maintenance tasks. Platform length, as measured from the inside, is 1.63 m and this can be extended by a further 0.91 m with the roll-out extension deck, for a greater working area. The SJ III 3219 is the world’s best-selling scissor lift.
The SJ III 4632 is the big brother of the 3219, and also the largest in the DC electric scissor line from Skyjack. It has a platform height of 9.75 m which equates to a working height of 11.75 m. The two-man platform has a huge capacity of 318 kg, and the inside platform length of 2.13 m can be further extended by 1.22 m once the extension deck is rolled out.
To go with the largest unit from Skyjack’s range of scissor lift platforms, the company will also show its largest articulating boom, the SJ 63AJ. With a working height of 21.38 m, a horizontal reach of 12.19 m and up-and-over clearance of 8.38 m the platform gives the operator plenty of flexibility for varying the working positions.
The SJ 63AJ is the only articulating platform in this class with an open center knuckle riser, which gives the operator better visibility from the platform; allows for below-grade reach and also means that when folded for transport, the unit sits in a more compact package.
Advanced boom geometry allows the unit to move from ground level to full height using only the single main boom control. As with other Skyjack models, the SJ 63AJ features the True Vertical Rise feature, which ensures the boom arm does not drift when rising. The model on show at bauma China has a 48 kW Deutz diesel engine, and foam-filled tires for better off-road durability.
Rounding out the product offering from Skyjack at bauma China 2014 will be the SJ 16 vertical mast lift. This compact and highly maneuverable unit is hugely popular for a variety of industrial and commercial maintenance and service tasks. The zero-degree inside turning radius, allows the platform to maneuver in extremely small spaces – a very handy feature in busy or crowded work spaces. Raised platform height on the SJ 16 is 4.75 m, which corresponds to a maximum working height of 6.75 m. Platform capacity is 227 kg, while stowed height and width are 1.79 m x 0.69 m, allowing the unit to fit through standard door openings. Power for the unit comes from a 24 V DC battery unit.
All Skyjack machines are created around the company’s “Simply Reliable” design philosophy, so maintenance is made easy through the use of the company’s color-coded wiring system, while only well-proven and easy-to-maintain componentry is used in the manufacture of the platforms.
The company’s staff will be highlighting its “Simply Reliable” philosophy at bauma China, where new additions to the team from across China will be joined by other international staff, including several from the Skyjack head office in Canada. While supplies last, visitors who register at the booth will also receive a limited edition of Skyjack’s bauma China t-shirt. The first in the series debuted at APEX 2014 and Skyjack now produce a special design for each show.
