Smith Brothers & Webb experience boom in business for its Britania brand of washing systems

Smith Brothers & Webb, the leading designer and manufacturer of bespoke automated washing systems for trains and passenger-carrying vehicles, is experiencing a boom in business.

Orders are pouring in for its Britannia brand of washing systems that in the first six months they have already exceeded orders placed in 2013.

Turnover is expected to nearly double this year as Britannia’s reputation for reliability, longevity and unsurpassed wash quality wins orders from all over the world for its washing systems manufactured in the UK.

Among recent contract wins are orders for a train washing system and a Controlled Emission Toilet system for Hong Kong’s new South Island (East) line and a wash system for Edinburgh’s new tram as well as bespoke equipment for cleaning the iconic Routemaster ‘Boris Bus’ in London.

Andy Barracliffe, Director of Britannia Washing Systems, said: “Britannia is going from strength to strength as more and more operators recognise they can rely on Britannia to keep their vehicles professionally clean.

“Presenting a good image to the public has always been important: passengers’ are often wary when they see a dirty carriage or bus approaching as they fear the service will be shoddy too.

”Coach, bus and train companies competing for business understand that a smart appearance wins them passengers so they want to make sure their logos and liveries are pristine.

“Similarly, companies running large fleets of commercial vehicles know that their trucks are a big advertisement for their brands, and for their customers’ brands – and need to be as clean as possible.

“I am delighted with the surge of orders in 2014 and look forward to an even more successful year to come.”

Smith Brothers & Webb designs and manufactures all its Britannia brand of automated washing systems and CETs at its base in Alcester, Warwickshire, where the company has been located since 1969.

Each train washing machine is designed to customers’ specifications and Britannia produces a range of drive-through and overhead gantry washing systems for buses, coaches and commercial vehicles, with a range of options including under-chassis wash and water recycling systems.
