Smurfit Kappa Recycling has received delivery of 28 new vehicles* as part of its £1.5 million fleet renewal programme. Already in operation, these new vehicles will help to improve collection efficiency, health and safety and environmental performance for the company which collects paper and card from businesses and local authorities across the UK to reprocess at its own paper mills in Birmingham and Kent.
The upgraded fleet of front end loaders, hook lifts, trailers and ancillary equipment includes three vehicles with remote controlled cranes for the emptying of paper banks. Drivers can operate the cranes outside of the cabs by using wireless equipment, which improves visibility and therefore the safety of the operation. Also now on the road is a new curtain-sided truck mounted with a forklift which can be used independently of the vehicle, enabling the driver to load without calling upon a customer's staff or equipment. Most of the new vehicles have rear steer facilities to assist drivers operating in areas with poor access and many are also fitted with reversing cameras.

With a national fleet of articulated and smaller vehicles, Smurfit Kappa Recycling can collect from anywhere in the UK. Customers can also deliver to the company's eight depots from Glasgow to Southampton or directly into the paper mills in Birmingham and Kent.
