Spaceway works with Allstore

to provide a new concept in lockable storage rooms. Faced with the conundrum of how to accommodate 272 storage rooms within an area of just 550 square metres for Cornwall based storage company, Allstore, the Spaceway Group has worked with the company to produce StackiTall, an archive storage system, an innovative solution for maximising storage space for archive boxes and self-storage.

Allstore is a family business offering storage in a purpose built, 3,000 square metre facility in Truro. The company provides self-contained, lockable storage rooms for clients that range from individuals through to corporates.

Wishing to maximum one area of the building to store as many archive files as possible, Allstore's Managing Director, David Stephenson decided to investigate storage systems that were available on the market. Finding that the storage industry had no archive storage system suitable for maximising small areas, he turned to the Spaceway Group to help him develop a solution.

"We wanted to 'reinvent the wheel' by mixing archive and self-storage in a single design so that a company or individual could add units as required", said David Stephenson. "Existing systems wasted space as units have to be pushed back horizontally before a person can gain entry".

StackiTall allows for a greater number of mobile storage units to be accommodated in a confined area through a unique system that enables the units to be pulled forward and back rather than the normal left to right. This allows easy access to boxes and enables additional units to be installed, as space is no longer needed for units to be pushed along to make way for access.

"We chose Spaceway because it had the ability to help us develop this unique concept and it has a first rate reputation for service", concluded David Stephenson. "StackiTall has enabled us to achieve 272 bays to store a total of 17,260 archive boxes".

Designed in collaboration with Compact Storage, the StackiTall system uses a welded chassis to ensure long-term durability. Grouted, levelled floor tracks take into account uneven floor surfaces and floor infill and ramped access points ensure personnel can operate the system efficiently whilst complying with all Health & Safety issues.

Additional safety measures include integral stops on the tracks and an anti-tilt device for operator protection. Each unit is fitted with special decorative end uprights to improve aesthetics and to contain the locking mechanism.

Statistics show that small businesses move location up to four times during the first 10 years of trading. Storing items, off site is now becoming an accepted practice and more flexible than taking filing systems from location to location. StackiTall enables companies to fit out a small area off-site and then add to the system as their business grows.
