Speedy create a Victorian festive buzz in Portsmouth

Speedy helped turn back the clock for Christmas 2012 after supplying equipment for a Victorian festive celebration in Portsmouth.

The UK's leading equipment rental and support services company showed its support for the town's annual 'Victorian Christmas' event by supplying an assortment of equipment.

The event, which is held on the Portsmouth Historic Dockyard, was this year in the theme of a 'Dickensian Christmas, celebrating Charles Dickens' birth in Portsmouth 200 years ago.

Speedy supported the event by providing 100 crowd control barriers, two trolleys and tables and chairs. They also provided two cherry pickers courtesy of their supplier AFI. They also highlighted the importance of safety at the event by supplying various fire extinguishers.

The weekend long event provided heaps of entertainment, including colourful and lively sketches and reading of Dickens' work, The Boutique Market, the Hampshire Fare and the traditional Fagin's Tavern with its unique blend of Music Hall style entertainment. An appearance on stage was also made by Father Christmas, who switched his traditional red garments to green, and bought along his reindeer.

Jordan Simmons, Speedy site manager, said: "The Victorian Christmas is a popular event in Portsmouth and has become a much-loved tradition within the city. A huge amount of effort goes in to holding this event and we are delighted we could offer our support.

"The city's annual celebration of its history is a fantastic way to celebrate the festive season and we look forward to continuing our work with organisers in the future."
