Stationary on the move

Founded in 1986, Office Depot Inc is one of the world’s largest sellers of office products. A new facility in Ashton Under Lyne, Manchester, has resulted in the investment of a special telescopic boom conveyor, and a number of other products from Caljan Rite-Hite.

The Man Rider Telescopic Boom has a platform, which is used by one or two operators for the manual handling of all types of loads. Office Depot uses its new man rider for the unloading of its vehicles carrying office chairs. Easy to operate due to its ergonomic design, the machine decreases unloading time by up to 50%. The company has also invested in a telescopic unloader and five telescopic loaders with rotary bearings for 180 degree movement, enabling one telescopic loader to service more than one loading dock. These are used for unloading and loading the company’s delivery vehicles.

Office Depot, which owns Viking Office Products and distributes its products through stores, direct mail and the internet, has used Caljan Rite-Hite as a supplier for a number of years, for projects right across its European facilities. Based on this existing relationship, Bernd Schiel, Project Manager for Office Depot, chose Caljan Rite-Hite for this latest installation. He has been very pleased with the results to date:

“The new Man Rider and telescopic loaders and unloaders have provided a much safer environment for our people operating in the dispatch and receiving area, as well as maintaining the flexibility required for these operations. The vital co-operation during the planning phase was achieved, and the service Caljan Rite-Hite provided was very good, which made sure that the interface to the main conveyor system went as planned.”
