Sustainable waste management celebrated at Severnside Achievement in Recycling Awards

Excellence in sustainable waste management was celebrated on Thursday (May 13th) in Cardiff at the Severnside Achievement in Recycling Awards. The awards brought together some of the UK's leading blue chip organisations and SMEs to recognise the positive steps that have been taken towards reducing the amount of waste going to landfill.

Severnside received a record number of entries for its 2010 awards, demonstrating the emphasis businesses are now placing on improving their waste performance. Entries were invited from Severnside's diverse customer-base and looked at a number of key areas, including best practice, technology, partnership, individual achievements and retail initiatives. The evening also comprised the presentation of the Letsrecycle.com award for overall excellence.

Mat Prosser, host for the evening and Severnside's commercial director, said: "It's fantastic to bring so many of the UK's leading companies together and be able to recognise all the hard work they are putting into making significant environmental improvements. Too often, household names become the scapegoat for the country's poor performance when it comes to waste, but actually they're leading the way when it comes to the implementation of often complex new recycling practices.

"Our awards are one way to say well done for the positive results that have been achieved. The event also demonstrates the innovations that are delivering results not just in environmental terms but also on the bottom line."
