TCL Packaging has purchased a new automatic core cutting machine from Universal Converting Equipment in Suffolk to add to a number of recent capital purchases the company has made for its Telford production unit.

The order for the Universal CCA was placed with the aim of increasing TCL’s reel core production capacity and matching output with increased demand for printed packaging films. Order levels from manufacturers and packers across a variety of market sectors remain strong for the company. Printed films for the produce sector have been particularly strong this year.

The new unit gives TCL increased reel core production speed, minimal labour involvement, rapid size change and built-in waste minimisation features and is expected to be installed and commissioned before the end of 2016.

Mike Golding managing director comments “Although a relatively modest capital purchase at just over £20K, an additional, faster, automatic core cutter is now essential for TCL. It will enable us to align this process with overall production and keep pace with growing demand. Volumes of packaging films continue to be higher than expected for the time of year and we’ve had our busiest ever August. Enquiries from buyers anxious to re-shore packaging material from the Eurozone is also adding to overall demand.”
