TDG simplifies transport planning with Paragon software

TDG has selected advanced map based routing and scheduling software from Paragon Software Systems to optimise the transportation of wardrobe furniture and other supplies for its Home Décor division. The time saving software ensures that TDG can rapidly produce accurate daily plans based on actual orders from customers, which include B and Q, Homebase, Wickes, Focus, and a large number of fabricators throughout the UK. With 100 per cent optimised routes, TDG is able to make best use of vehicle and driver availability, both within its own fleet and its permanent subcontractors.

TDGs Contract Manager, David Vincent, says Paragon Single Depot is a very good aid for precision modelling of the Home Décor routes. We can look at a wide range of parameters such as geographic regions, number of vehicles, drivers, capacities, and so on. This gives us a clear view of the workloads and what we can achieve by full utilisation of our available resources. By using 100 per cent optimised routes we can deliver more and this gives us improved flexibility and we are able to react better to our customers' requirements, he says.

Vincent adds: "The large number of orders we deal with on a daily basis would be too difficult to plan manually. With manual planning there is the danger of introducing inefficiencies that then add further problems throughout the supply chain. Paragon automates the whole process for us, applying intelligence to simplify what would otherwise be a very lengthy and complex job. The software produces the plans and all we need to do is a sense check to make sure we are happy with the routes."

TDG is one of Europe's leading supply chain management companies. The organisation employs around 7,000 people across 130 sites and 6 countries. It provides value-added supply chain management to a wide range of markets, including chemicals, consumer, construction, retail and paper and packaging.
