A UK storage company has erected its second temporary building in less than a year after planning delays for a permanent facility meant it faced losing valuable additional business.
Cam Store began operating in the new building, which was installed in just two weeks at its base in Hertfordshire, after it secured a new warehousing deal with a major client.
Supplied by Spaciotempo, the building measures 600sqm and is being used to store electrical equipment and fast-moving consumer goods prior to their collection for delivery elsewhere.
Cam Store offers around 10,700sqm of secure off-site storage space but it had to draw up plans to build a new permanent facility after it won its huge new storage contract earlier this year.
Everything was on track until its planning application ran into unexpected delays. Faced with the prospect of losing the contract because it could not offer storage space in time, Cam Store decided to invest in a temporary building, knowing that they can be up and running in a fraction of the time it takes to erect a permanent facility.
The company got in touch with Spaciotempo - which supplied a 525sqm temporary building to Cam Store last year - and its new facility was ready just a few weeks later.
Chris Synowiec, the company's managing director, said: "Our business is changing, with more customers coming to us with last-minute requests for storage, so we often don't have the luxury of time when it comes to accessing extra space.
"For this latest order, although we had made the planning application early enough, there were conditions attached when the permission was granted, which would have caused delays in the construction project.
"Thanks to Spaciotempo we have ended up with a building that, instead of taking three months to build, took just two weeks and does everything that a permanent building would do.
"We're very happy with it, not least because it demonstrates that when we need to respond quickly, we can access extra storage space - with the added bonus of being able to remove it if we no longer need it."
Scott Jameson, director of sales for Spaciotempo, said: "Manufacturers are increasing their production levels again, which means that they are on the look-out for storage space that they can use at short notice.
"Inevitably, this is putting pressure on storage companies to provide space quickly and those that can do so are the ones who are winning the contracts.
"We are very pleased that our temporary building helped Cam Store to win their new order when delays in the planning process meant they faced losing out."
