The UK's fastest growing waste management company, SWR, is managing the entire waste contract for The Langham, London, a renowned 5* luxury hotel in London. SWR specialises in the hotel and catering sector and has been appointed to manage all of the hotel's waste. Under the new waste contract SWR intends to raise recycling levels from the current rate of 35 percent to an impressive 75 percent over the first year of the contract and in the process realise significant reductions of The Langham's waste spend.
Kobus Maree, Safety, Risk and Security Manager and Environmental Champion at The Langham, London, said: "Dealing with the waste from daily operations can be a real challenge for a busy central London hotel like The Langham. CSR and sustainable business development are an important part of our ethos and wherever possible we try to eliminate waste at source to minimize disruptions, noise and our overall impact on the environment.
"SWR is helping us achieve this with new practical ways of working, which includes the installation of internal segregation bins, a new cardboard baler, a bin press and a glass crushing machine."
Handling hundreds of empty glass bottles a day can be hazardous for hotel and restaurant staff. Some of the UK's premier hotels, pubs and restaurants are separating their waste glass containers safely and quickly at source, and many are crushing them on site with SWR's Smash and Grab™ glass compactor.
SWR CEO, Giles Whiteley explains: "We are very pleased to be working with The Langham. In terms of challenges of dealing with waste in large hotels it has them all; noise, space, access, size, large numbers of staff, busy bars and restaurants. It has really allowed us to demonstrate the full range of our capabilities and ability to deliver a high quality service. Hotels and bars are a key market for SWR, we work very hard to introduce services that meet specific waste requirements and fit with their operational needs."
Another valued service offering from SWR is the production of quarterly reports on The Langham's environmental performance. This will enable them to demonstrate operational efficiencies and improved recycling performance to staff, patrons other stakeholders and the general public.
