TOMRA Sorting acquires BEST to complement TITECH's sensor-based sorting platform for recycling

TITECH for the recycling industry and ODENBERG for food industry, both brands of TOMRA Sorting AS, will benefit from joining forces with Belgium-based company BEST, a specialist for advanced optical sorting technology. TOMRA Sorting, signed an agreement on 31 May 2012, with the owners of technology manufacturer BEST Kwadraat NV (BEST), located in Leuven to acquire 100 per cent of the shares in BEST. Closing of the transaction is expected to take place at the beginning of July 2012.


Merging of sensor-based sorting platforms

The acquisition of BEST represents another important step towards realizing TOMRA Sorting's strategy of strengthening its market position and product offering within sensor-based sorting. BEST is a strong strategic fit with TOMRA Sorting and complements its existing technology portfolio through the addition of leading laser sorting technology whilst BEST has now access to all existing sensor technologies of TOMRA Sorting. All customers will now benefit from a wider range of sensor technologies including laser, camera, fluo, LED, X-Ray, shortwave infrared, NIR/VIS and MIR spectroscopy.


The application experience as well as the industry expertise in the food and the recycling industry of BEST, ODENBERG and TITECH will be combined.

BEST and TOMRA Sorting have a combined 30 locations on five continents. BEST also has a network of 60+ exclusive sales agents in a broad range of geographic locations.
