Top transport topics to be discussed at EuroTra events

The European Transport Training Association (EuroTra) will be covering major transport issues at its two forthcoming events - the first it has held in the UK for seven years.

The EuroTra Winter General Assembly, on Thursday 1 December, will involve 26 European and Canadian delegates who will discuss topics such as driver shortages, retention of drivers and the impact of initial and periodic training in Europe.

On the following day the EuroTra Expert Forum will discuss the subject of urban deliveries. Speakers will include Glen Davies of Transport for London on the Freight Operator Recognition Scheme (FORS); Lisa Lavia of the Noise Abatement Society and Natalie Chapman of the Freight Transport Association on night-time deliveries; and Dan Evanson of Transport for London and FTA's Natalie Chapman on the 2012 Olympics.

EuroTra President James Tillyer, from FTA's consultancy team, who will be chairing both meetings, will be presenting this year's EuroTra Safety and Innovation Award to Peter Larner of Suckling Transport Ltd. The Essex-based fuel distributor's use of driver performance data to identify the specific training requirements of its 150+ drivers, along with specialist training for six in-house trainer/drivers yielded them top prize in this annual international competition.

Both events will be held on board the HMS President at Victoria Embankment.
