Total Logistics secures historic Irish libraries project

International supply chain consultancy, Total Logistics, has been awarded a prestigious contract to provide recommendations to a unique collaboration project involving Trinity College Dublin (TCD), University College Dublin (UCD) and the National Library of Ireland. As the first initiative of its kind, the project sees three of Ireland’s world renowned libraries working together with the aim of creating a single storage facility for a set of priceless and irreplaceable materials from libraries across Ireland.

Total Logistics has previously worked on similar book storage facility projects for the historical Bodleian Library and the University of Oxford. This project is being led by TCD, UCD and the National Library of Ireland and is designed to address the needs of major research library archives across the country.

Appointed as project consultants in July 2011, Total Logistics will spend the next six months developing a set of recommendations for the proposed facility that meet the stringent quality standards required for this type of storage solution.

Peter Roan, director at Total Logistics, said: "We are delighted to have been appointed as consultants to such a prestigious and groundbreaking project, which really sets new standards for collaboration in the supply chain arena. Our work on the Bodleian Library last year provided our consultants with a unique set of challenges which will certainly help inform our approach to this assignment."

The project is currently in the initial design stage. The resulting plan and business case will then be used by TCD, UCD and the National Library of Ireland to secure Government funding and support from various philanthropic foundations.
