A group of Toyota Material Handling UK employees are amongst those going the distance for cancer charity Lynn's Bowel Cancer Campaign with a sponsored 1,350 mile motorcycle ride.
Operations Director Tony Wallis and Dealer Operations Manager Peter Woodhouse are two of the team from Toyota who are taking part in the 'Big Bike Ride 2008' to raise money and awareness for the charity.
The event will take place in June this year and involve 35 riders, including many from the Toyota team. They will be travelling from Birmingham to London via Wales and Scotland stopping to distribute awareness leaflets and raise the overall profile of the charity.
The event is being organised by an ex-Toyota employee Stephen Ward who suffered bowel cancer and Tony Wallis who planned the route and recruited riders.
Stephen commented: "This event is incredibly important in our ongoing campaign to raise awareness of bowel cancer. Toyota is supporting the cause with a donation which will help to ensure that we have everything in place for our riders to travel comfortably and safely such as accommodation and fuel costs."
The theme for the event is 'Spot your Symptoms' highlighting the importance for people to look out for symptoms and get treatment as soon as possible. With this in mind all those taking part will wear high visibility "Spot the Symptoms" vests.
Mike Mathias, Managing Director, Toyota Material Handling UK commented: "When we heard about this campaign and realised the number of Toyota employees who were getting involved, we all wanted to help. This donation will allow the team to meet the challenge more easily and highlight the importance of spotting early symptoms of bowel cancer."

Lynn's Bowel Cancer Campaign
Lynn's Bowel Cancer Campaign is a voluntary charity, founded by Lynn Faulds Wood, (Ex Watch-dog presenter and bowel cancer survivor) leading the way in providing the best information on symptoms and diagnosis. They are the only charity whose work is endorsed by the Association of Coloproctology (Bowel specialist doctors and nurses). Lynn's charity is mainly run by volunteers - Lynn isn't paid a penny –so all sponsors' money will go into the project, to develop Computer Assisted Diagnosis software for people to use in their own homes to decide if they might have a problem before visiting their GPs.
One in five people with bowel cancer suffer a year's delay or more before diagnosis and for many, by then, it's too late. With Computer Assisted Diagnosis and three questions, your GP should be able to tell the chances of your having a serious problem. Lynn is an expert in bowel cancer and has an honorary doctorate in the disease.
