Toyota Handling provides key to success

Assa Abloy, the market leader in locks and door opening solutions, has chosen Toyota Handling to supply materials handling solutions for its national distribution centre in Wolverhampton.

Strong service and support from West Midlands dealer Toyota Handling was one of the key reasons for Assa Abloy choosing to work with Toyota, as well as Toyota's reputation for reliability and safety.

Employing around 50 people, the Wolverhampton site is the primary distribution centre for Assa Abloy products in the UK, including well-known brand names such as Yale and Union locks. Assa Abloy customers include all of the big DIY chains as well as trade outlets throughout the UK.

With the company expanding, the volume of goods moving through the site is ever-increasing, making reliability a key requirement for the materials handling operation.

Assa Abloy has been working with Toyota Handling for just six months but is already benefiting from the equipment supplied, a 2.5 tonne 7FBMF forklift and two 1.8 tonne powered pallet trucks from Toyota's warehouse range.

In operation for eight hours every day, the 7FBMF is used to unload and load vehicles onsite, with the forklift loading around 1,000 pallets each week. The truck has been customised with hydraulically extending forks, which doubles the truck's reach and enables more efficient materials handling.

The 7FBMF features Toyota's revolutionary AC² power system which maximises power management and ensures optimum efficiency. Using advanced energy saving technologies, the system also allows the trucks to work harder and over longer periods.

Mark Beresford, General Manager at Assa Abloy said: “In my previous experience, I've always found Toyota forklifts to be extremely reliable and the 7FBMF and 7PM18 pallet movers in use here are more than living up to my high expectations.

“The forklift is proving to be very popular with our drivers as it provides exceptional driver comfort, which is very important on eight hour shifts. This undoubtedly also improves on-site productivity. We've also been impressed by the strong service provided by our local dealer, Toyota Handling.”
