Trailer manufacturer Cartwright Group receive major order from distribution specialist CM Downton

Order for 80 curtainsiders

Plus six double deck trailers

Manchester-based the Cartwright Group has won a major order for additional curtainsider trailers from distribution specialist CM Downton taking their total orders from the Gloucestershire based company to over 580 in recent years.

Downton has recently ordered 80 new curtainsiders and six double deck trailers to add to their Pets At Home fleet.

Downton, which has built a partnership over seven years with Cartwrights, has developed a strong presence in the FMCG market and has also become one of the country's largest distributors of magazines. It today delivers over 450 titles accounting for over 70 per cent of publications on news shelves including the likes of IPC, Comag, Nat Mags, Conde Nast, Marketforce, as well as supplements for News International.

The company's growth in recent years required a trailer partner that could meet the flexibility required to meet the fluctuating demands of its customer base which had developed over the past decade into key vertical markets and had taken the company from a regional to a national player. Major clients include Pets At Home, Dyson, Constellation Wines, Magners, Dairy Crest, Tesco and many other major brand names.

Managing Director Andrew Downton recently described Cartwrights as a 'trailer management solutions' company rather than simply a body and trailer manufacturer.

"Our latest order with Cartwrights for 80 curtainsiders takes our total order with the company to over 580 since the start of our relationship.

"In our view they are very good engineers who care passionately about their product. It was very important to our business that they could provide the flexibility we required as well as a competitively priced product to our bespoke requirements," he said. "They also offer competitive financial packages and good leasing rates.

" Along with the Trailer Rental service they offer, I don't believe that there is a single source trailer provider in the marketplace that can provide everything the Cartwrights do. They offer a total trailer management solution," he said.

The curtainsider trailer order includes a number of new features including a new rear buffer arrangement to reduce damage.

Steven Cartwright, Director of the Cartwright Group, added: "We are delighted by this latest order from Downton. They are a highly successful operation and we share many values in our businesses for service and quality. It is a model relationship."
