Transaid Names Pall Ex Supporter of the Month

The No. 1 Pallet Network raises over £17,000 for the charity

Transaid, the transport industry’s charity, has named Pall-Ex as their December ‘Supporter of the Month.’ The title was given to Pall-Ex in recognition of its outstanding fundraising efforts throughout 2006. The latest donation came in the form of a cheque for £14,680 presented to Chris Saunders, Transaid’s CEO, by Pall-Ex MD Hilary Devey.

The cheque represented money raised through Pall-Ex’s Penny-a-Pallet scheme, together with a table collection taken on the night of Pall-Ex’s 10th Anniversary Dinner Dance. Further funds were raised on the night through an auction, bringing the total donated to Transaid on the evening to over £17, 000.

Pall-Ex, the UK’s No. 1 Pallet Network, has been a major supporter of Transaid for many years. The company runs various initiatives including a “Penny-a-Pallet” scheme which means that for every pallet that is transshipped through the company’s purpose-built hub near Ellistown in Leicestershire, Pall-Ex sets aside one penny for Transaid.

Transaid is a UK-based charity that works with the Transport and Logistics sector to put suitable transport solutions in place in areas of the world where little or no infrastructure exists. With strong backing from Pall-Ex and other leading companies, Transaid has over the last six years worked in 20 of the poorest countries in the world to help eliminate transport barriers that lead to poverty and preventable deaths.

Earlier in the year Pall-Ex donated £7,000 from the Penny-a-Pallet scheme and held a Corporate Golf Day in September to raise further funds. Pall-Ex was also highly involved in the organising and co-hosting of the Royal Spring Ball, which raised £30,000. In April of this year Hilary Devey, MD of Pall-Ex, travelled to Ghana to see Transaid’s efforts first hand and help raise the profile of their work.

Chris Saunders, CEO of Transaid, commented: “Pall-Ex is a long-term supporter of Transaid and their continuous efforts have made a big difference to what we have been able to achieve. We are very encouraged by the positive and practical approach and commitment we have enjoyed from Hilary and her team.”
