Trevor Ellis takes the chair at the Transport Association

Trevor Ellis, the head of transport and warehousing specialist CS Ellis Group, has been elected chairman of the Transport Association, the national self-help network of established hauliers.

C S Ellis Group chief executive officer Trevor Ellis has been vice-chairman of the Association for the past two years and was unanimously elected at this year's Annual General Meeting. He takes over from outgoing chairman Stephen Taylor of TM Logistics.

“I'm delighted and honoured to have been chosen by the members and I would like to thank Stephen for all the hard work he has put in as chairman over the past two years,” said Mr Ellis.

The Association has developed over the past few years and, with a new website and focus groups, the value of networking and sharing best practice will be enhanced.”

“Lobbying our MPs at the Houses of Parliament as part of the haulage industry's day of action in London on the day I was elected Chairman, is a clear indication of the pressure our industry is under. These pressures are coming from a number of sources including; fuel increases, foreign competition, future road taxing policies, and ever increasing environmental pressure that adds to the considerable legislative burden we are under as an industry.”

Mr Ellis firmly believes there is still a valuable role to be played in the industry for quality, family-run, medium-sized hauliers. Many of our 60 plus member companies remain under the control of the original founding families and have built up a long-established reputation for their professionalism.

“The next two years will be a challenging time for the road transport industry. It is more important than ever that the Transport Association's membership is strong and that we support each other through our national self-help network,” added Mr Ellis.

The Transport Association was founded over 50 years ago and comprises around 60 mainly privately owned haulage companies, providing a nationwide network of 3,000 vehicles and 120 sites. Member companies offer professional transport, storage and distribution services to retailers and manufacturers in the UK and, increasingly, in Europe.

C S Ellis Group is based in Luffenham Rutland. It operates a national fleet of over 50 vehicles and 350,000sq ft of warehousing. Trevor is also Chairman of Palletline, one of the leading national pallet networks.
