Boughey Distribution, one of the UK's leading ambient grocery distribution and storage companies, has ordered 30 new curtainsider trailers from Schmitz Cargobull.
The trailers will operate out of Boughey's site at Wardle, Cheshire, and will form part of the company's nationwide distribution fleet delivering goods throughout the UK for clients such as Princes Foods, Typhoo and Pataks, as well as several of the leading retail giants.
Finished with Boughey's corporate livery, the new trailers have been built at Schmitz Cargobull's UK factory at Harelaw, County Durham. They feature Schmitz Cargobull's own disc axle which the company produces at its facility in Altenberge, Germany. The design of the axle allows extra cooling and less heat transfer to the bearing – thereby significantly cutting down the chances of the bearings becoming overheated during operation and, in turn, reducing one of the single biggest causes of hub failure. The axle also enables a disc to be changed without opening or exposing the sealed bearing - making the bearing less vulnerable to ingress from dust or other debris.
To ensure that the lifetime running costs of the trailers are further minimized, the new curtainsiders are fitted with Michelin's latest trailer tyre -the X One MaxiTrailer, which use Michelin's Infinicoil Achitecture.
The new low profile MaxiTrailer tyres offer considerably more mileage than many traditional alternatives and Schmitz Cargobull's trailers are one of the few models on the market that do not require major modifications to the suspension to run with them, as Paul Brimelow, Boughey's Group Fleet Engineer, explains: "Schmitz had already done all of the design work to the chassis and suspension to enable them to achieve the UK ride height, whereas some of the other trailer manufacturers we spoke to had yet to do this. Schmitz Cargobull's engineers have designed a system that accommodates the new tyres with the minimum of fuss."
The trailers were aquired on a finance package put together by Cargobull Finance.
Paul Brimelow recalls that he first noticed the Schmitz Cargobull products at last year's Commercial Vehicle show. "I was impressed with them and, although we hadn't bought Schmitz Cargobull trailers before, decided that they were the best option for us. Schmitz Cargobull impressed as a company that wants its customers to be satisfied with the products it supplies – we certainly have been."
