Gasrec, Europe’s leading supplier of liquefied gas for road transport, has confirmed that the UK’s first dedicated Euro 6 gas-powered heavy goods vehicle, a Scania tractor unit which recently entered service with Argos and has already been trialled by a number of other leading retail and logistics companies will be displayed on the company’s stand at this year’s Commercial Vehicle Show, on 14-16 April at the NEC Birmingham.
Plated at 40 tonnes gross train weight, the unit is equipped with Scania’s OC09 102, nine-litre, Euro 6 engine. Delivering 340hp (250kW) at 1,900 rpm and 1,600Nm of torque between 1,100 and 1,400 rpm, this engine is designed to operate solely on gas (compressed or liquefied) and offers a high thermal efficiency of 40 per cent.
Argos will initially be running five of these advanced gas-powered trucks from its base at Magna Park in the Midlands. With an expected range of up to 450 kilometres, the vehicles will run on daily return to base operations filling up at a new open access refuelling station that Gasrec will be opening later this year close to Magna Park, at Lutterworth. They are currently using Gasrec’s open access refuelling station at DIRFT in Daventry.
Gasrec’s stand highlights the growth in popularity of liquid and compressed natural gas vehicle fuels and the increasingly strategic infrastructure supporting them across the UK road network. It will be an essential visit for any retail and logistics companies planning future fleet investments.
Gasrec’s stand will also have on display, the UK’s first DAF Euro 6 dual-fuel heavy good vehicle, an XF Euro 6, 12.9 litre, 460hp small midlift – see 26 March announcement.
DIESELGAS (formerly Prins Autogas and sharing the Gasrec stand) is the first company to successfully convert the new DAF Euro 6 vehicle to run on dual-fuel (compressed natural gas and diesel). The innovation provides a solution to the difficulties facing the dual-fuel vehicle technology industry in adapting Euro 6 vehicles to run using this carbon saving technology.
Throughout the show, Gasrec’s specialists will be on hand to advise fleet operators on the logistical, technical, environmental and commercial benefits of introducing gas to their fleets. Also available will be details of the UK’s growing strategic refuelling infrastructure and the integrated supply chain that supports this network.
Gasrec is Europe’s largest supplier of low emission Liquefied Natural Gas in Europe, fuelling over 60% of gas powered HGVs on UK roads from 10 strategically located filling stations. The company pioneered the development of low emission bio-LNG (liquefied landfill biomethane and LNG) for transport and it continues to work collaboratively with every element of the NGV supply chain to encourage new users and ensure gas fuel is widely available.
