Waste management goes mobile with Mobexx in vehicle computers with built in telematics

Mobexx in-vehicle computers with built-in telematics are being used as part of an advanced waste management system to provide a live communications link between crews and depots. The Waste Collector system developed by Bartec Systems provides a direct real-time link between waste collection crews and their offices via the in-cab PC's.

The Mentor Ranger PC's provide the live wireless connection between the vehicle and the back-office system, eradicating paperwork and making mobile phones and radios redundant. The computer also provides an all-in-one system for real-time vehicle tracking and navigation, data capture and voice communications.

The system enables each waste collection operation to be live monitored by the office and it allows crews to relay issues such as damaged or missing bins back to the depot or call centre at a touch of a button. This information can then be used to help customer services staff deal with queries from the public as it instantly updates customer records as to why their bin may have been taken or a collection missed.

With Waste Collector, Councils can improve waste collection performance and gaining a host of benefits, including improved customer service, better routing and round management, reduced road miles and therefore fuel savings. The system provides a comprehensive set of visual tools for real-time planning, maintaining and analysing collection rounds and routes. The system can be used for single-vehicle rounds, zonal collections or one-off collections.
