Whale Tankers has supplied three new specialist ADR tankers for Veolia’s Hazardous Waste fleet, setting the benchmark in safety and efficiency in the transportation of hazardous wastes.
Part of a £300,000 investment programme from Veolia, the three tankers – two stainless steel and one lined – will provide increased payload for a large range of hazardous waste products including flammable and toxic substances, due to the detail of the design. Whale refined the product specification to further reduce weight and to ensure continued compliance with all the latest regulation and operational best practice.
Chris Anderson, Commercial Director for Whale Tankers, said: “Working in partnership with the technical team at Veolia, we undertook a detailed review of the tanker specification in light of the changes in ADR legislation, type approval and health and safety requirements, as well as the latest available design, component and manufacturing technology.”
All three tankers have been specified with continuous rated Mistral 7 hydraulically driven air-cooled vacuum pumps and Molex valves. Two feature a fully opening back door, full length sight glass and three man holes, as well as light-weight alloy hose racks and full length Whale folding catwalk. The third is lined with a 900mm diameter rear door.
Chris Anderson added: “The latest tankers to join Veolia’s fleet have been optimised from both an operational and technical specification and will help the company in its mission to minimise environmental impact.
“Appointed by the VCA and accredited through UKAS, we are able to carry out periodic and intermediate inspections for tanks in accordance with the requirements of ADR. This means we are well positioned to provide all important national parts and service backup that is vital in the management and transportation of hazardous waste.”
Mike Jones, Head of Fleet for Hazardous Waste Services at Veolia, said: “We’ve worked with Whale for many years and the latest tankers we’re adding to our fleet have been custom built to a very high specification, enabling us to handle the largest range of products possible under the scope of ADR. This is an example of Whale’s complete understanding of our technical and operational needs while also ensuring we meet all the latest ADR legislative requirements.”
