Leicester based logistics specialists, the Widdowson Group, has secured two
overnight trunking contracts worth £350,000 with Office Depot, the UK’s leading contract supplier of office products.
Widdowson is transporting Office supplies from Office Depot’s Midlands DC to its Crawley depot and, on the second route, delivering products from Northampton to Leicester and Willenhall.
Freddie Watts is the Fleet and Transport Contracts Manager for Office Depot in the UK, he comments, "Widdowson approached us as our Leicester DC is close to the Widdowson site. I gave them a full schedule of what we do and asked them to quote. They were very competitive on both of these routes, so when we had carried out background checks on the company, we awarded them the trunking contract to Crawley.
"We operate a time sensitive 24 hour operation and therefore it is essential that we can rely on Widdowsons to make the deliveries at certain times during the night. The products are all required for onward next day distribution by our Office Depot vans. Once we were comfortable working with them on the Crawley route we moved the Northampton to Leicester and Willenhall business across to them too.
"Widdowsons is very customer-focused, with a flexible approach to business. As a result, any hiccups that have occurred have been handled professionally and resolved quickly."
John Berrey, business development manager of the Widdowson Group concludes, "Making use of some of the vehicles from our transport fleet during the night makes sound commercial sense. We’ve been able to provide an extremely cost effective and reliable service to Office Depot – it’s a partnership that we look forward to progressing."
Widdowson’s Transport Division offers national distribution from one pallet to a full load, either on a dedicated, contractual, shared user or ad hoc basis. Widdowson has a modern fleet, in excess of 120 vehicles which extend from panic vans to 44 tonne artics and over 200 trailers.
