Wood is good, It

Timber products have been given the thumbs up by the World Wide Fund for Nature after the international environmental group issued a report urging specifiers and consumers to choose wood rather than plastic.

Leading pallet management company Whirlowdale Trading Company has been involved with the supply of new and reconditioned wooden pallets for over 30 years and has always been a strong believer in the environmental benefits of timber packaging.

Group managing director Andrew Pearce explains: “Customers have recognised that timber pallets are a more environmentally-friendly option, with the reconditioning side of our business growing significantly in recent years. Reconditioned pallets are not just an economical option, but also help companies comply with waste packaging regulations. We are looking forward to working with even more businesses to deliver high quality timber pallets as part of a complete packaging management solution.”

Many customers, including some of the UK's leading bakeries, food processors and drinks producers have switched back to using wooden pallets in a bid to reap the benefits of major cost savings. Now this has been officially recognised as an environmentally-friendly solution, Whirlowdale is expecting demand for both new and reconditioned pallets to increase even further.

Increasing numbers of producers are also giving Whirlowdale complete responsibility for their pallet management solution to avoid the problems of lost and wasted pallets, as part of its unique Palagistics service.
Whirlowdale launched Palagistics® just 18 months ago and is now offering a complete 360 degree service involving the lease, sale and re-purchase of an extensive range of pallet products.

Andrew Pearce explains: “The benefits to customers of minimised losses and maximised profits through the reliable supply of the most suitable type of pallet have clearly been demonstrated. The fact that we can offer expertise and advice as well as a simple ordering and tracking system means that businesses soon reap the benefits of this comprehensive system.”

Whirlowdale has a highly effective network of pallet distribution centres with sites in the Northern, Midlands and Southern regions. This enables a quick and efficient turnaround of pallets and ensures high volumes are available from stock as required. Whirlowdale is one of the few UK pallet providers that can offer a comprehensive selection of stock as well as dedicated sales staff with a strong understanding of the industry and its requirements.

Established over 25 years ago Whirlowdale is now one of the UK's largest pallet providers. The company operates three recycling sites and three manufacturing sites, capable of delivering products quickly to all regions of the UK and Europe. Its growing reputation as a provider of both plastic and wooden pallets in a complete range of sizes continues to result in the company winning impressive, prestigious new contracts.
