XPO Logistics works with Radius to develop smarter solutions

XPO Logistics has extended the scope of its supply chain solutions for Radius Systems, a specialist polyethylene pipe producer, to incorporate a daily distribution service of fittings to Ireland and Northern Ireland.

In addition to the transportation of pipes across the UK, the two companies are working closely together to develop a new distribution model that improves the delivery of fittings to both Irish countries. The enhanced process will increase the delivery frequency of in-stock goods from twice weekly to daily, using integrated technology that facilitates a seamless data flow from order handling to fittings despatch.

Through its flexible next-day pallet network, XPO Logistics has complemented its existing Red Inside dedicated solution, which provides a customer branded outsourcing service, to include direct deliveries to Belfast and Dublin within 48-hours. This is supported by 72-hour distribution for all other areas. The service covers orders for stocked items received before noon on working days.

The fully computerised operation will increase order-processing efficiency; ensuring customers receive fittings when needed. In addition, customers will have direct access to fittings from the main warehouse, eliminating the need to stock-check several locations and therefore saving time in order despatch.

Steve Ellis, Radius Systems Head of Supply Chain, explained: "We’ve been working closely with XPO Logistics to consolidate our logistics operation by putting in place more efficient systems and work practices to improve our delivery targets.

“This is great news for our customers in Ireland and Northern Ireland, who are already benefiting from the innovations we’ve put in place. With this new integrated process, we are a stage further in developing and implementing smarter solutions to move our logistics function forward and deliver increased customer confidence and satisfaction.”

Dave Finnie, Business Unit Director at the Transport division of XPO Logistics, commented: “With our flexible in-house pallet distribution network, we are providing a seamless one-stop solution for Radius Systems, which integrates daily deliveries of fittings to Ireland and Northern Ireland alongside dedicated plastic pipe deliveries in the UK.”
