Yodel recruits ex-military personnel as part of MOD’s Armed Forces Covenant

Independent parcel carrier Yodel has signed up to the Ministry of Defence’s Armed Forces Covenant, to help ex-military personnel and reservists find employment after leaving service.

To celebrate the work already done by the carrier, the MOD recently awarded Yodel a Bronze Award for promoting the employment of members of the armed forces community.

Naomi Hall is one of Yodel’s first recruits through the armed forces resettlement provider, Career Transition Partnership (CTP). After spending 16 years in the RAF, serving in Afghanistan, Iraq and the Falkland Islands, Naomi undertook work experience at Yodel and was subsequently offered, and accepted, a full time position in the Business Change team at their Liverpool office.

Naomi, who completed various project management qualifications through CTP to prepare her for work outside the military, said: “I’m really enjoying the change and the challenge,” said Naomi. “In the military I was very used to knowing my job, and what I was doing each week. The work placement and successful completion of my courses have built my confidence and ensured the move to Yodel was the right move for me.”

Lynne Graham, people director at Yodel added; “We are very proud to have signed the Armed Forces Covenant and to have achieved a Bronze award in such a short space of time. Our valued military personnel have given so much for our country and still have so much to offer, including many transferable skills.

“It’s clear from Naomi’s progress that the programme we have in place with CTP is having a really positive impact. Through the CTP we are able to match people’s skills to the posts available and offer a range of fulfilling career opportunities when their days in service come to an end. For us it’s a win-win situation.”

Yodel has pledged to uphold the key principles of the Covenant, which states that:

1.    No member of the Armed Forces Community should face disadvantage in the provision of public and commercial services compared to any other citizen.

2.    In some circumstances special treatment may be appropriate especially for the injured or bereaved.

Yodel’s commitment to the Armed Forces Covenant has helped many people make the transition from the armed services to civilian life. The Bronze Award is a testament to the diligent work the company has done in recent months to promote the employment of ex-military personnel, and we welcome the continued support that Yodel gives to our community.”
