Premium express delivery company City Link has opened a new depot in Durham to meet increasing local Customer demand.
Indeed since opening its doors the depot has already enjoyed a number of significant contract wins providing a strong platform on which to continue to build.
Situated on the Belmont Industrial Estate, the depot will serve a region which extends from the south of the Tyne to past Durham which was previously handled through the company's Newcastle Depot.
The move, which has so far created 20 new jobs, is complementary to City Link's policy of delivering levels of service to their Customers which are second to none.
The purpose built 50,000 sq ft depot represents a six figure investment by City Link. It is equipped with state of the art track and trace IT systems which have been rolled out across the UK as part of a £2.5 million investment. The 48 local employees handle over 18,000 parcels a week.
Glen Garrett, General Manager at Durham commented: "City Link's investment in the new depot not only clearly demonstrates the company's commitment to its existing and potential Customers in the region but also to its employees."
"The new site is great and provides a fantastic working environment for our colleagues to work in which can only be of benefit to the business.
"Furthermore by being able to concentrate on our core Customer base from a dedicated facility means that we have been able to introduce a number of new operational improvements which in turn has enabled us to further enhance the level of service we provide ," continued Glen Garrett.
City Link, which this year celebrates its 40th anniversary, operates a network of 3,000 vehicles, has over 6,000 employees and over 85 depots across the UK.
