Forward Thinking Nazeing Company Turns Dead Mileage into Profitable Mileage
FAMILY business, W J Wooster and Sons, is a freight firm with a proud track record and more than 40 years experience.
In the ever-changing and challenging world of haulage and logistics it has turned to Haulage Exchange to help boost profits and increase efficiency.
Based in Nazeing, Essex the general haulage company owned by Bill Wooster, runs 10 vehicles including 18 tonne arctics and 7.5 tonne capacity lorries and has 15 drivers.
Perry Street, clerk at the company, uses the online Haulage Exchange information hub on a daily basis, searching for opportunities to pick up back loads, take on localised sub-contract work and share details of empty vehicles.
Perry said: "We have been with Haulage Exchange for a year now. I had heard about it and I knew a member so I spoke to him about it and how it could help us.
"As a company we decided we would give it a go and it has just carried on from there.
"I'm constantly looking at it, seeing what jobs are about and what we might be able to do.
"If we have vehicles in the yard we need to find work for them and Haulage Exchange assists with that.
"Also if we have just delivered to Manchester I will be using it to see if we can get a return load from there back down here - otherwise it's just dead mileage."
Thanks to Haulage Exchange W J Woosters has seen vehicle capacity maximised, bringing cost savings and profit advantages.
Dead and unnecessary mileage has been reduced, benefiting the company and the environment.
"Being in Haulage Exchange has certainly been advantageous profit wise," said Perry, "and we have been able to do more jobs which can cover for dead mileage.
"All in all Haulage Exchange has achieved exactly what we were looking for and that's getting return loads and turning dead mileage into profitable mileage."
