Supplied by local Nexen dealer Waveney Forktrucks of Lowestoft, the 2.5 tonne capacity FGX25 model chosen by HLC is fitted with a Nissan 33kW LPG gas engine and is equipped with a 4.8 m triple mast with integral side-shift.
HLC is a family owned and run business and one of the largest independent manufacturers of pallets and boxes in the UK with a production capacity of some 75,000 pallets/week involving the use of the country's largest kilning facility.
With approximately 5000 cu m of timber to be handled every week, HLC relies heavily on its fleet of 16 forklifts from 1.5 to 5 tonne and when an additional unit was required the company turned to Waveney Forktrucks, with which it has enjoyed a 20 year working relationship, in order to try out one of the new X-Range Nexen models.
Commenting on the decision, HLC's commercial manager Paul Lewis said: "We operate a very busy site with the forklifts operating 80 hours per week over two shifts and so reliability is a key factor in order to meet our production deadlines."
The new X-Range forklift truck from Nexen has been designed from the ground up using tried and tested quality components and particular attention has been paid to serviceability and operator comfort.
The outstanding ease of access to all components, coupled with an on-board LCD service monitor, ensures rapid diagnosis and rectification of any problems and a fully floating driver's cell reduces vibration to an absolute minimum.
At HLC's Harleston premises the FGX25 has been assigned to handling the supply of wood to a brand new production line representing an investment in excess of £1M.
