Mobexx launches new rugged hand held computer for logistics sector

RMobexx has launched and ultra rugged and powerful hand held computer designed for use in logistics, warehousing and other industrial environments. The 2T Hydrus provides extremely reliable computing for the harshest of environments and offers a wide range of expansion options, including RFID readers, custom configuration and colours.

Because Mobexx is able to provide application specific keypad graphics within days of placing the order with the manufacturer, it means that the hand held computer can be tailored to specific applications. This enables very intuitive use of the hand held as well as speeds up training.

The Hydrus has one of the largest capacity batteries available on the market, providing up to 40 hours of working time for field-based applications. The long working life for the device means that there is no need to purchase complex docking/charging cradles for in vehicle use. Instead a simple optional low-cost cradle is all that is necessary. The industry leading hand held has a durable chemical-resistant casing, which is IP67/68 rated against dust and water, and offers class-leading ergonomics.

Designed for intuitive use, the hand held provides a comprehensive package of features including a 5 Megapixel colour imager, illuminated 55-key alphanumeric keyboard with joystick, a sunlight readable touchscreen LCD, and integrated WLAN 802.11b/g and Bluetooth. The hand held also provides easy expansion for data capture such as low and high frequency RFID and proximity readers.

A Xenon flash equipped version – Hydrus Luna – is also available for taking high quality photographs in poorly lit offices and dark warehouse and even under overcast skies. And, for added global positioning system functionality, the Hydrus Luna GPS delivers a total all-in-one solution.

Mobexx says that the Hydrus is also ideally suited for a range of outdoor applications including meter reading, environmental testing, security and fleet management. It can also provide a solution within the hospitality sector wherever there is a need for an ultra rugged device such as outdoor centres and leisure facilities.

"The Hydrus breaks the mould for hand held computers. It is the only device on the market that packs a high power punch in a versatile, highly customisable, ergonomic form factor. The fast response customisation service makes it much quicker to get user-specific systems installed. This ability to provide application specific keys and graphics as well as body colours is an attractive proposition and Mobexx sees this particular hand held opening up a wide range of opportunities. The ability to integrate the full range of RFID technologies – low to high frequency – for example also makes this a very versatile mobile computing tool," says Mark Dale-Lace, Director, Mobexx.
